More About Me

My History as a Writer:

I began writing in elementary school, writing stories about birthday parties, flying turtles, and robots trying to take over the world. In fifth grade, my teacher encouraged me to submit to a local essay writing contest about Lewis and Clark, which I surprisingly won.

I published my first short stories and poems in eighth grade, where I submitted work to the national literary magazine called Stone Soup. The summer of my freshman year of high school, I completed a 106,217 word long novel. By junior year, I became the first person ever from my high school to submit to Scholastic's Art and Writing Awards. My senior year, I failed to win in the Novel Submission category, but I did receive a regional Gold Key for my senior portfolio.

My Ambitions as a Writer

I want to write and publish a novel someday. But before I can do that, I must become a better writer. In order to that, I must write. Poems are the gateway to my mind, where ideas bubble up magically, bursting from geysers or leaking slowly to the surface. Being able to create is not so much a matter of putting words down to paper, but thinking of the ideas themselves. Poetry is a very raw form of writing for me- it retains emotions, experiences, formless thoughts and moods. It is an ideal carrier for an idea that I may develop later.

With PoemPostcards, I am hoping to both hone my skills as a spontaneous writer as well as reach out to people from around the globe. I am hoping to make a statement about the nature of creative writing. I am hoping to bring joy and delight to someone's day through my words alone. I am hoping to surprise someone with the gift of words. I am hoping to make an impact on the community around poetry.
